Check Out the Creepy ‘Sinister’ Motion Poster

Is there anything scarier than home movies? Or – at least – the thought of watching them? ‘Sinister’ takes this fear to a new level by making those home movies haunted. The film hits theaters October 5, but until then, here’s a motion poster.

Okay, that’s kind of cool. We haven’t heard much about this picture, though it stars Ethan Hawke – which puts it right above direct to video slashers. But films like this are made more more by a director’s prowess than great actors. In fact some of the worst horror movies have starred talents like Anthony Hopkins (‘The Rite’) and Richard Burton (‘Exorcist II’), who come across like they’re slumming. With the found home movie angle, at least it’s not just blankly ripping off the ‘Paranormal Activity’ style, but is definitely in that genre.
This also reminds of the long buried film ‘The Poughkeepsie Tapes,’ which was made in 2007, and still hasn’t received a proper release after being virtually booed off the screen at an Ain’t Cool News Butt-Numb-a-Thon. Hopefully this is much, much better. The film was directed by Scott Derrickson, but he doesn’t get credit for his name, so much as being behind ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose.’
Here’s the Synopsis:
SINISTER is a frightening new thriller from the producer of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY films and the writer-director of THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE.  Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror.

  1. Bev, when I saw that picture I actually inhaled sharply and said 'EWWW!' out loud!!! But the animation is actually really cool. I think I like that better than the freeze frame of the bloody face.
