Vincent D'Onofrio Joins Ethan Hawke in Off-Broadway's "Clive"

Brooks Ashmanskas, Vincent D’Onofrio and Zoe Kazan Will Join Ethan Hawke in Off-Broadway's Clive.

Additional casting has been announced for The New Group's upcoming production of Jonathan Marc Sherman's Clive, which begins a limited Off-Broadway engagement Jan. 17, 2013, at The New Group at Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre, 410 West 42nd Street).


 Joining the previously announced Ethan Hawke in the title role will be Brooks Ashmanskas, Vincent D’Onofrio and Zoe Kazan. Additional casting will be announced.



Also directed by Hawke, the production will officially open Feb. 7 at 7 PM.

 Inspired by Bertolt Brecht's inflammatory play Baal, Clive, according to press notes, "tracks a dissipated songwriter in 1990s New York City from the hedonistic heights of seduction and consumption into an ecstasy of self-destruction." his production reunites playwright Sherman and director Hawke, who teamed previously at The New Group on Things We Want (written by Sherman, directed by Hawke, 2007 extended run) At once a celebration and a nightmare vision of life lived for pleasure, Clive boasts an eclectic selection of classic American songs performed live.

 Performances will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 PM and Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 PM with matinees Saturday at 2 PM. Tickets, on sale in late November, may be arranged through www.telecharge.com or (212) 239-6200, or at the Theatre Row Box Office (12–8 PM daily).

Vincent D'Onofrio: Responsibilities and Technical Artistry.

A while back I purchased a 1998 Premiere magazine on Ebay with an article that featured the men from the movie The Newton Boys. I was mostly curious to see if there were any new photos of Vincent in it that I hadn't seen before and perhaps some words that Vincent may have shared about the movie.   Matthew McConaughey, Skeet Ulrich, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio are featured on the cover.

I've excerpted the part of the article that pertained specifically to Vincent.

On the set of The Newton Boys, Hawke and D'Onofrio have been fond of ad-libbing, even writing a song for a scene set to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb." "Mary had a little lamb," sings D'Onofrio, "her daddy killed it dead/ And off it goes to school with her/ Between to chunks of bread." The two were drawn together by respect for each other's techinical artistry, a distaste for actors who take themselves too seriously, and a similar outlook on the movie business.

"The guys were giving me a hard time about Mystic Pizza," D'Onofrio says, "so I would go up to Ethan and say, "Weren't you in that dog movie?" It's just a joke. My wife and I happen to love White Fang."

D'Onofrio, who has a six-year-old daughter, Leila, from a previous relationship with actress Greta Scacchi, has reached a point in his career where he is sometimes willing to make a blockbuster such as Men in Black. "I have more responsibilities," he says, "so I'm trying to pick certain studio films to get some cash so I can afford to do the independents. It's hard for people to recognize me. I've played many different parts in many different genres. And I hope it stays that way. I never get bothered and I still make good money."

D'Onofrio followed his role in The Newton Boys by playing a porn star in The Velocity of Gary, an independent film directed by The Whole Wide World's , Dan Ireland. Hawke did a cameo in Gary, which D'Onofrio produced; unlike his friend, though, Hawke is not ready to talk about responsibilities. "I'm not announcing wedding plans anytime soon," he says, politely sidestepping questions about the child he and Gattaca costar Uma Thurman are expecting.

Synopsis: In the film, opening October 5th, a true crime novelist struggling to find his next big story discovers a box of home videos showing other families being brutally murdered, but his investigation soon leads him to a supernatural entity that may be placing his own family in harm's way.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a film I would choose to go out and watch but being a fan of Vincent D'Onofrio's is going to get me in the theater. But I'll be sure to be watching through screened fingers over my eyes.

Hello to everyone watching and thank you for tuning into ReelScreenReviews.com, I am film critic Nick Iacobucci and our next movie review is "Sinister". This horror and crime thriller will open in wide release on Friday, October 5th, 2012, this is an early review. It stars Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, James Ransone, and former "Law & Order" District Attorney Fred Dalton Thompson. This film comes to us from director Scott Derrickson, the director of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Keanu Reeves, and what I believe to be an overlooked cinematic treasure in "The Exorcism of Emily Rose". He now steps back into the realm of the supernatural and horror, and I can only hope that he can match the bar that he set so high with 'Emily Rose'.

This tale tells of a journalist that is always in search of another big story, so he moves his entire family into a house where entire family was murdered. Don't ask me I would never do it. Now shortly after settling into his new residence our investigative reporter soon discovers 'Found Footage' about what actually happened with the demise of this previous family? It seems that these clues also reveal that this is not an isolated incident, and his own family may now be at risk. Before this tale comes to a close our protagonist will have to figuratively replace his pen with a sword, and will he have the patience of Job to see this paranormal conflict through till the end?
